A Quiet Place(2018)- Directed by John Krasinski and starring John Krasinski, Emily Blunt, Millicent Simmonds, and Noah Jupe – Quiet Thriller/Post-Apocalyptic Scifi
Simple Overview: A family is trying to survive in silence after the arrival of hypersensitive to sound extraterrestrials to conquer the noisy population of the earth. John Krasinski and Emily Blunt silently guide us through the new normal in the world of A Quiet Place as they show us various adaptions made to their home and everyday way of life, Be ready for a silent thriller that communicates through sign language and very few audible sounds.
What Could Have Been Better: I’d have liked to see a bit more of the arrival of the extraterrestrials and the relationships the family had with their neighbors. That would be interesting. The nail on the steps, need I say more?
What I loved: The film was well thought out all around with a great story being portrayed by talented actors. The set was perfect how they had adapted the farm into a silent paradise that allowed them to become mainly self-sufficient(Did you see all those bottled veggies?). I loved seeing how they had adapted and worked around the strengths of the daughter. The monsters were terrifying, I don’t know about you but with the way I live my life now, I would be gone pretty quickly if these creatures arrived. Lastly, the actors did excellent at being a family having real emotions and portraying actual struggles that various families might have in everyday life. I’m looking forward to the next installment in this series.
Final Thoughts: A Quiet Place is a strong step in the right direction for John Krasinski as a director and actor he is setting himself up with a solid foundation as he moves forward in his career. This film will keep you entertained and thinking while you are watching it then wondering after the film is over how you might survive in a post-apocalyptic world like this. Watch for strong performances from each cast member while remembering Krasinski and Blunt are real-life husband and wife at the same time. Be mindful that you might find yourself holding your breath or breathing a little bit quieter as the film goes on. If you can watch this at night just for the added suspense factor.
