John Wick Patron Saint of Dogs

Film: John Wick (2014)

Directed By: Chad Stahelski

Starring: Keanu Reeves, Michael Nyqvist, Alfie Allen, Adrianne Palicki, Willem Dafoe,  John Leguizamo, Ian McShane, and Dean Winters

Key Details: John Wick is a retired assassin who has been pushed out of retirement by a series of unfortunate events. As Wick reintegrates himself  with his former occupation the underbelly of New York is shown to be classier than ever expected. If you’re watching John Wick for the first time think Jason Bourne, James Bond, and a little less unrealistic version of The Matrix. Gold Coins, Guns, and Suits make for a fun action film.

My Rating: 4.5/5

Summary in a Tweet: Oh the places you’ll go to seek revenge. Gold Coins, A classy hotel, Suits and Guns. Need I say any more before you’ll watch John Wick?

Simple Overview: John Wick is a fun action flick that builds the world around him with new details gradually added every few scenes. The film is beautifully captured through aerial  views of the city, close up views on the action, a beautiful soundtrack that matches each scene perfectly, and finally accompanied by smooth choreography with every punch delivered. This film will have you at the edge of your seat wondering what else they’ll drop on you.

The music in this film is one of my favorites I’ve watched in the past year. It matches much of the fighting and mood of the film beat to beat. It’s a fun combination of classical film with some heavier tracks mixed in. I’m pretty sure Marilyn Manson makes a vocal appearance or two in this movie.  Which makes for a fun vibe of the film throughout each step John Wick takes.
Can we also talk about the uniforms of the assassin world? They have a slick look all around with the suits, the retro, and overall timeless feel of their attire. They’re so classy and cool without trying too hard. It all felt natural and not over the top despite it being a mixed bag of design from a few different time eras.

Yes, We have a podcast episode you can listen to HERE.

Final Thoughts:
If you’ve heard me on our podcast I’m a huge film of a well thought out action film. John Wick is just that a smooth ride with a few jarring bumps along the journey for the title character. This film is shot beautifully, tuned perfectly with quality coloring and editing, with a powerful accompaniment of acting and music to create a smooth blend of Keanu Reeves as John Wick. A must see for any action junkie like me.
