Annabelle Needed To Be Scarier

Film: Annabelle
2014 – Horror/Thriller – 1h 39m
Directed By: John R. Leonetti
Starring: Annabelle Wallis, Ward Horton, Tony Amendola, Woodard, and Eric Ladin

Ratings: IMDB: 5.4/10  Rotten Tomatoes: 29%  Metacritic: 37% Google Users: 77%
My Rating: 3.5/5 – Felt recycled, not a great story, hard to connect with the characters.

Simple Overview: Husband finds the perfect gift for his wife or so he thinks. Annabelle is a branch off film from the Conjuring universe covering the experiences of ED and Loraine Warren.

Have I watched this before?: Nope, first time!

What Could Have Been Better: Despite this film having some thrilling and scary moments it overall felt recycled and it bit like a fan service. I’m not too opposed to those films normally but it wasn’t the quality I was expecting from The Conjuring Universe. It was good for a scare and that fun thrill but not the greatest. Needed to be scarier.

What I loved: The lead couple were great. The appearance of the doll and her freaky face and demeanor was welcome for me in this thriller. I wish they had the priest involved a bit more as his character was interesting to me. Also, Annabelle and her boyfriend were freaky as can be. The shadow of the Ram was also pretty dang spooky.

Final Thoughts: While Annabelle may not be my favorite film in the Conjuring universe it was good enough to add to my list of freaky films I’ll be watching again. Be prepared for thrilling scenes with an extremely dark overtone and a skeptic husband who should listen to his wife better!
